WATCH WITHOUT A SUBSCRIPTION
Free VR movies and 360° demos: where to start
Have a headset and want something to watch before paying for a subscription? Start with a free animated short or a surrounding video sample. These are short experiences, not a promise of a free Hollywood film catalogue.
A 360° video lets you look around. It is not automatically stereoscopic 3D. A headset, compatible player and the right source format are all important. Country availability and provider conditions can change.

Pearl — a story from the passenger seat
Google Spotlight Stories’ animated film follows a father and daughter through moments inside their car. Choose the original 360° upload; a separate flat version does not give the same look-around experience.
Equipment: a headset supported by YouTube VR. Access: free YouTube viewing where available; provider advertising may appear. Stereoscopic depth is not confirmed here.

Try depth with the Immersive Web sample
This stereo-video player is a technical demonstration, rather than a film service. Open it in a compatible headset browser and use its VR control when offered. It is useful for comparing depth with an ordinary browser picture.
Access: publicly accessible sample. Equipment: a compatible WebXR headset browser; an ordinary desktop may report that VR is unavailable. This sample is not limited to 20 seconds.
Open the stereo sample ↗How to watch Pearl on a Quest headset
- Look for the official YouTube VR app in your headset’s store. Check the exact model against the provider’s current supported-device list.
- Open YouTube VR and search for “360 Google Spotlight Stories: Pearl”. Match the official upload linked above.
- If YouTube opens in panel mode, choose “Watch in Immersive”.
- Start playback and look around. Increase quality using the player controls if your connection allows it.
Google’s current instructions name Quest 2, Quest Pro and Quest 3, along with PICO 4 and Apple Vision Pro. Check your device’s app store rather than assuming that an unlisted model is supported.

What if the video looks flat?
First check that you opened the 360° upload, then check the player mode. A flat trailer or panel view cannot demonstrate surrounding video. In a desktop browser, dragging the picture may let you look around, but that does not reproduce binocular headset viewing.
If your goal is depth on a cinema screen, look specifically for a stereoscopic source and supported player. Do not choose a random side-by-side setting for a video whose format is unknown.
